Hohoe: The Hohoe Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a civic engagement session focused on the rule of law and corruption for women from selected groups in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region. The event aimed to educate and empower women to act as agents of change in the fight against corruption and to understand their rights to help curb the issue.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ernest Amedior, the Hohoe Municipal Director of NCCE, emphasized that corruption negatively impacts the development of the nation, with women often being the primary victims. He explained that the engagement would equip women to support the anti-corruption drive and reduce its prevalence. He encouraged them to become active agents within their various groups.
Mr. Amedior urged participants to take part in governance processes at the local level, fulfill their obligations as citizens, and support one another. Mr. Michael Amoadjah, Acting Hohoe Municipal Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), highlighted that women's rights are often overshadowed by men, emphasizing the need for women to be aware of their rights.
He further stated that educating women on their rights would enable them to fully exercise these rights and contribute to fighting corruption by utilizing the Whistle Blower Act. The engagement received support from the European Union, GIZ, the Swiss Government, and the Ministry of Finance.
Participants expressed their gratitude for the engagement, noting that it has increased their awareness of corruption, their rights, and the support available to them in combating corruption.
