Native of Wli Donates Six-Seater WC to Alma Mater

Wli: Mr Bright Yaw Kelvin Afeku, a native of Wli in the Volta Region, has donated a six-seater water closet (WC) to his alma mater, Wli Central M.A Junior High School, to enhance sanitation. The facility aims to address one of the many challenges faced by the school and ensure that pupils remain in school to promote teaching and learning.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Afeku, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighted the importance of giving back to the community that raised and nurtured him during the handover of the facility. He pointed out that the school still faces challenges, such as the lack of a classroom block for form one learners, and expressed his hope to build a modern one for the school in the future. Mr Afeku urged the school to maintain the facility and encouraged learners to focus on their studies.

Mr Stephen Kongoe, the headmaster of the school, noted that the new facility had eliminated the need for students to visit the bush for nature's call, thereby reducing their exposure to danger. He assured that the school management would provide disinfectants to maintain hygiene in the facility.

Regent Musa of Wli Afegame, speaking on behalf of the community, praised Mr Afeku for his timely contribution to the school. Mr Newton Darkey, the Hohoe Constituency Chairman of the NDC, emphasized that such contributions lessen the government's burden in ensuring sanitary conditions in schools and encouraged others to impact their alma mater similarly. He also noted that proper sanitary facilities help girls stay in school during their menstrual periods and stressed the importance of maintaining the WC to extend its lifespan.

Madam Regina Elanyo Daketsey, Assemblywoman of Wli Afegame, also commended the donor for the facility and acknowledged the teachers for effectively fulfilling their roles.
