National Day of Thanksgiving to Usher in Transformative Era for Ghana, Says Local Government Minister

Accra: Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has praised the institution of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service. The service, introduced by President John Dramani Mahama and set for July 1, 2025, is expected to 'usher in a transformative era for the nation,' according to Mr. Ibrahim, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Banda constituency in the Bono Region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event aims to foster spiritual unity and serve as a catalyst for national development and economic recovery. Mr. Ibrahim spoke at a thanksgiving service in his honor at the Church of Pentecost, Sophia Cudjoe Temple in the Sakumono District, Accra, emphasizing the event's importance in marking a new chapter in Ghana's national consciousness. The initiative replaces the traditional Republic Day celebration to promote collective gratitude for the nation's peace, stability, and progress.

Mr. Ibrahim highlighted that the day transcends mere ceremony, describing it as a spiritual and national moment poised to stabilize the country, strengthen the cedi, and align with President Mahama's vision for unity and prosperity. The event will be decentralized, with observances in all 16 regional capitals to encourage broader participation nationwide.

Stressing the indispensable role of religious and traditional leaders, Mr. Ibrahim underlined the importance of spiritual solidarity for national development. He expressed gratitude for his re-election and ministerial appointment, pledging to serve the nation with humility and diligence.

Apostle Wilberforce Nkrumah Agyemang, the Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Teshie-Nungua, urged the minister and other officials to maintain consistency and dedication in leadership. He advised them to seek self-improvement as a means to transform lives and contribute to national growth. "Through discipline and meaningful change, you will not only uplift others but also help shape a stronger economy," Apostle Agyemang stated.

The service saw attendance from key figures such as Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the Deputy Local Government Minister, Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a Presidential staffer, along with members of the business community, religious leaders, and NDC supporters.
