NABOCADO Provides Essential Supplies to Refugees at Tarikom

Tarikom: The Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organization (NABOCADO), a Catholic faith-based organization, has delivered essential food and non-food items to refugees residing at the Reception and Settlement Centre in Tarikom, located in the Bawku West District. The aid includes 142 bags of 25 kilograms of rice, 144 bottles of two liters of cooking oil, 150 kilograms of iodized salt, 432 cakes of laundry soap, as well as toothpaste and sanitary pads.

According to Ghana News Agency, the gesture was funded by the Integral Human Development wing of the Vatican, Rome. The Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, Bishop of the Diocese, emphasized the Church's dedication to supporting the vulnerable. He noted that while the supplies might not be sufficient, the Church aimed to complement government efforts. The region has seen an influx of Burkinab©s seeking asylum due to suspected terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso.

Despite some Burkinab©s returning home, many remain at the Tarikom Centre. NABOCADO has consistently supported these residents with critical services, including healthcare. Bishop Agyenta highlighted the Church's duty to support refugees, reaffirming that the Church remembers them. He expressed concern over the conditions at the center, noting the cessation of support from UNHCR and the World Food Programme.

Bishop Agyenta urged authorities not to neglect the refugees at Tarikom, acknowledging government efforts but calling for further attention. Dr. Joseph Banguu, NABOCADO's Executive Director, recounted the organization's ongoing support since the asylum seekers' arrival. Even when funding ended, NABOCADO maintained contact with the refugees, providing various forms of assistance.

Asylum seekers expressed gratitude for the support. Madam Fauzia Sare, one of the recipients, expressed her appreciation for the assistance and the Bishop's comforting words, praying for continued blessings for the Catholic Church and NABOCADO.
