Muslim Councils Commend President Mahama for Declaring Eid Public Holidays

Accra: The Federation of Muslim Councils (FMC) has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for designating March 31 and April 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to Ghana News Agency, this appreciation was communicated in a press statement signed by Al-Hajj Muhammad Amir Kpakpo Addo, the General Secretary of the FMC. The Council acknowledged that President Mahama's decision aligns with a campaign promise made to the Muslim community. They highlighted that the recognition of Eid-ul-Fitr through additional public holidays will assist Muslims in fully observing the festival, which can vary between 29 or 30 days due to the lunar calendar.

The statement from FMC emphasized their gratitude for the President's acknowledgment of the festival's importance and his commitment to facilitating its celebration. The FMC noted that the extended holiday period is expected to enhance unity, inclusivity, and religious tolerance in Ghana, giving Muslims the chance to celebrate with family and friends.

The organization also commended President Mahama's leadership in fostering national unity and social cohesion. They called on all Muslims in Ghana to seize this opportunity to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr while continuing to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding within the community.

'Eid Mubarak to all Muslims in Ghana and around the world!' the statement concluded.
