Accra: Dr Dominic Ayine, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, announced that investigations into the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Skytrain scandals have been concluded, and prosecutions are set to begin by mid-April.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Ayine revealed that in the NSS scandal, eight suspects have been interrogated, with a significant number cooperating with the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). During a media briefing on Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) related cases in Accra, Dr Ayine stated that other matters are still under investigation, but he refrained from detailing each case.
Dr Ayine highlighted that substantial progress has been made in probing allegations of looting state resources as indicated in the ORAL Report, which was handed to the Attorney General on February 10, 2025. Evidence has emerged showing payments made into accounts of top NSS executives by vendors and staff. Further evidence indicates that in November 2024, the NSS CEO and others allegedly paid a Ghanaian MP to suppress media coverage and defend them.
Regarding the Skytrain scandal, the Attorney General confirmed that $2 million was paid under the directive of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi, and CEO Mr Solomon Asamoah, who is now reportedly in hiding in Senegal. Investigations tracked Asamoah to South Africa as of February 2, 2025. The transaction lacked board approval, and conditions precedent to disbursement were unmet, a fact corroborated by other board members and a review of board minutes.
Dr Ayine emphasized the ongoing diligent work on several dossiers that he believes will significantly impact national awareness. Alluding to the gravity of the situation, he compared suspect Kwabena Adu-Boahene's actions to a famous boxing match, indicating that even more significant revelations are forthcoming.
