Move Afrika Team Engages With Diaspora Affairs on Ghana Tour

Accra: The Executive Team of the Global Citizen Festival's 'Move Afrika' initiative paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kofi Okyere-Darko to discuss Ghana's role in the upcoming 'Move Afrika: Ghana' tour. The team reviewed the impact of the 2022 Global Citizen Festival in Accra, noting that it had contributed over $15 million to the local economy, created employment for more than 1,000 Ghanaians, and attracted over 5,000 international visitors.

According to Ghana News Agency, Michael Sheldrick, Co-founder and leader of the team, indicated that the 'Move Afrika' initiative aimed to build on this success by establishing a sustainable pan-African live music touring circuit, promoting economic investment, job creation, and youth entrepreneurship. He said the initiative also sought to position Ghana as a key hub for cultural exchange, aligning with the Diaspora Affairs Office's mandate to engage the global diaspora in national development.

As a gesture of goodwill, the team presented a book to Mr. Okyere-Darko to symbolise a shared commitment to cultural advancement. Mr. Okyere-Darko described the festival as a valuable platform for showcasing both established and emerging Ghanaian talent. He expressed the Office's readiness to deepen collaboration with Global Citizen and leverage the 'Move Afrika' initiative to strengthen Ghana's creative economy and diaspora engagement.

He also introduced the team to renowned Ghanaian artist, Kwaw Kese, during the visit.
