Accra: Ms Fatimatu Abubakar, Minister for Information, has called for professionalism as journalists prepare to cover the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections scheduled for Saturday, December 7. She emphasized the importance of accurate reportage and cautioned against spreading falsehoods or inciting violence through fake news, speaking to media practitioners in a statement to Ghana News Agency.According to Ghana News Agency, Ms Abubakar stressed that maintaining a peaceful election and upholding the country's democratic principles is a shared responsibility, with the media playing a crucial role in ensuring this without resorting to sensationalism. She advised against reports influenced by personal or political biases, urging journalists not to incite or embellish stories to favor any political faction.Furthermore, Ms Abubakar appealed to politicians to be mindful of their language and to act within legal boundaries during the electoral process. She highlighted the importance of presenting quali ty arguments rather than resorting to insults or inciting violence, and encouraged vigilance among party agents in monitoring the electoral process.The Minister expressed her satisfaction with the current campaign for the 2024 elections, noting the shift towards issue-based discussions compared to previous years.
