MMDAs’ Staff Sensitised on Public Financial Management Compliance League Table

Tamale: The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) has conducted a one-day workshop aimed at sensitising staff of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) on the Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT) and the Data Collection Tool. This initiative is designed to enhance governance and accountability within these institutions.

According to Ghana News Agency, the workshop was attended by Internal Auditors, Finance Officers, Budgeting, Planning, and Procurement Officers from MMDAs in the Northern and Savannah Regions. Participants were updated on the data collection tool and its functionalities, which are crucial for submitting accurate data as part of the PFMCLT. The PFMCLT serves as an innovative tool to assess and rank the financial management compliance of MMDAs.

Mr Abdulai Saani, Northern Regional Internal Auditor, addressed the workshop in Tamale, describing it as an essential step in promoting transparency, accountability, and sound economic management practices at public institutions. He highlighted the importance of the workshop in ensuring efficient and effective resource use to deliver quality services, promote fiscal discipline, reduce corruption, and improve transparency and accountability.

Dr Eric Oduro Osae, Director-General of IAA, through his speech read by Mr Alhassan Fuseini, Head of Projects, Coordinating and Monitoring Unit at IAA, stressed the need for effective engagement and understanding among all participants regarding the assessment tool. He warned that without an efficient system for managing public resources, the country faces the risk of underdevelopment.
