Microsoft global IT outage: “No impact on airport’s operations in Tunisia” (OACA)

Tunis: "The huge IT outage at Microsoft on Friday has so far had no impact on the operation of airports in Tunisia," said CEO of the Tunisian Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (OACA) Montassar Ben Hmida."For the time being, this outage has no impact on flight operations at our airports and airport management," affirmed OACA IT Director Ghazi Ziada."The problem is not global," he explained, adding that "it has affected specific international sites to which we are not directly linked. Our airports don't just rely on the internet connection, but also on business supports that give us a degree of security in the event of a problem.""We have also recently doubled connections on national and international routes to avoid problems at certain international hubs that could have an impact on us," he pointed out."The flight disruptions reported at some airports across the world have so far not impacted the national flights' schedule," he added.A massive IT outage swept the world on Friday, taking down crit ical systems at airports, banks, hospitals and millions of other businesses, and causing widespread chaos.The problem appeared to be affecting computers using Microsoft operating systems and believed to be linked to a bad patch update provided by global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
