Melcom Care Foundation Engages Students Ahead of Blood Donation Drive

Accra: The Melcom Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Melcom Group, has made a heartfelt appeal to the youth, particularly students, to actively participate in its forthcoming blood donation drive. The initiative seeks to bolster the nation's blood reserves, a critical component of its healthcare system.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Foundation announced that the blood donation exercise is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 23rd July in four selected schools, on Thursday, 24th July across 31 Melcom stores nationwide, and on Saturday, 26th July at prominent locations including Accra, Achimota, West Hills Malls, and the Melcom Mall at Spintex. This extensive campaign aims to involve as many young donors as possible.

Mr. Joseph Kpormegbey from the Public Relations Department of Melcom, representing the Foundation, emphasized the indispensable role of blood in healthcare and encouraged widespread participation in the donation drive. His remarks were directed at students from Apam Senior High School and Gomoa Senior High Technical School during separate events held on Tuesday.

The student engagement events were highlighted by the presence of the 2024 Miss Earth beauty queens from Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and India. They inspired the students by stressing the irreplaceable nature of blood, stating, "Blood is not manufactured in the stores, and there is no substitute for blood."

At Gomoa Senior High Technical School, Headmaster Mr. George Ocran expressed appreciation to Melcom for including the school in this year's initiative. He noted their long-standing partnership with the National Blood Service (NBS), having contributed to blood donations for over 14 years.

Mr. Moses Okine, the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration at Apam Senior High School, also lauded Melcom's efforts in introducing the blood donation exercise to his institution, recognizing its potential to make a significant health impact.
