Sunyani: Mr. Yaw George Ankamah, the Bono Regional Director of the Department of Children, has called upon the media to focus on issues that hinder the growth and development of children. He emphasized the critical role media can play in identifying and addressing challenges that affect children’s welfare, particularly in deprived communities, and urged media practitioners to contribute more towards alleviating children’s vulnerabilities.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ankamah provided this advice during a forum in Sunyani, organized by the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). The event marked the 2025 celebration of World Press Freedom Day under the theme ‘Overcoming Barriers to Accessing Information in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’. He highlighted that numerous issues affecting children’s welfare have been neglected for too long and that telling these stories effectively could drive action and support for the youth.

Mr. Ankamah stressed that the future of children facing hardships depends on the narratives crafted about them today. He advocated for responsible and impactful journalism to ensure these stories are told with the necessary urgency and empathy.

Presiding over the forum, Dr. Leonard Amengo, a renowned journalist, encouraged the media to upgrade their skills to meet the contemporary demands of journalism. He noted that the media landscape is rapidly evolving, requiring excellence and innovation in storytelling. Dr. Amengo pointed out that producing compelling stories necessitates capacity building to adapt to and utilize new technologies.
