Accra: Mrs Marian Ofori Twumasi, Chief Executive Officer of Mariseth Farms, has been awarded the Guzakusa 2024 African Agribusiness Woman of the Year for her remarkable contributions to agribusiness and job creation. Mrs Ofori Twumasi's achievements include cultivating vast acres of various crops and managing a state-of-the-art oil palm processing plant.According to Ghana News Agency, this award ceremony, marking its third edition and organized by Guzakusa, celebrates the empowerment of women in agribusiness across Africa. Mrs Ofori Twumasi was selected among five exceptional women in Accra for her efforts in expanding agribusiness advocacy, mentoring women, and training youth in the industry.In her acceptance speech, Mrs Ofori Twumasi emphasized the potential of agriculture to advance Ghana's development and urged all stakeholders to ensure food security. She highlighted the importance of value addition in agriculture to meet international standards and drive socio-economic growth.In an interview, Mrs Ofori Twumasi advocated for the inclusion of women and youth in agricultural policies, citing challenges such as access to finance and land that have yet to be adequately addressed. She stressed the need for government investment in women-led businesses to improve living standards and create employment opportunities for youth.Mrs Ofori Twumasi also noted the mutual benefits of her business ventures for local communities, providing employment and profit-sharing opportunities. She encouraged young entrepreneurs to start small, save, and collaborate with local entities and government agencies for support.Nana Adjoa Sifa Amponsh, Initiator and Lead of Guzakusa, advised women in the agribusiness sector to view the awards as a platform for networking and mentorship, emphasizing that success requires capacity building and learning from experienced mentors.
