Mangoase-Mumuni Road at Aiyinasi-North Earmarked for Construction

Aiyinasi: Cabinet has approved the construction of the Aiyinasi to Mumuni junction road to bring relief to residents along that area, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, has announced.

According to Ghana News Agency, the move formed part of a comprehensive programme under the Big Push initiative rolled out by the government. The road construction project is expected to open up the area to the southernmost part of the Ellembelle District and other areas including Asankragua in the Amenfi West, Prestea, and Tarkwa in the Western Region.

Mr Buah, also the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, said this when he commissioned six communities in the Aiyinasi-North, which have been connected to the national electricity grid. He stated that President John Dramani Mahama had declared his intention to open up the area to enable the people along that stretch to tap the economic potentials to develop that area.

Mr Buah emphasized that with every community connected to the national electricity grid and roads constructed, transportation and commerce would allow the area to keep pace with development. He remarked that the Aiyinasi-North area serves as the food basket of the Ellembelle District, but poor road conditions continue to hamper the work of settler farmers who produce a significant amount of cocoa and other foodstuff, resulting in much of the farm produce becoming perishable due to unmotorable roads and the unavailability of transport.

The MP mentioned that the government had concluded negotiations on the road, and contractors would soon come to the site to begin construction works. Nana Etwe Kpanyinli, Chief of Aiyinasi, expressed gratitude to the MP for lobbying the government to award the road on contract. He highlighted the need for good roads to transport produce to buying and market centers and appreciated the timing of the announcement.

The Chief also thanked the government for its intention to establish three police stations at Santaso, Kwasikrom, and Dadwen to enhance security in those areas, which are far from the major police station at Aiyinasi.
