Maiden Ghana-China Media Fellowship Ends, Calls for Balanced Reporting

Accra: The Ghana-China Media Fellowship 2025, a maiden initiative designed to build the capacity of Ghanaian media professionals in reporting on Ghana-China relations, has officially ended, with a call on journalists to ensure balanced reportage and cross-cultural dialogue. Organised by the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), the 12-week fellowship brought together 15 career journalists from television, radio, newspapers, and online platforms across Ghana.

According to Ghana News Agency, the programme offered a rich blend of weekly lectures, Chinese language instruction, industrial visits, and high-level diplomatic engagements. Mr. Paul Frimpong, the Executive Director of ACCPA, commended the fellows for their commitment and growth throughout the fellowship. He emphasised the need to translate the knowledge and experiences gained over the past three months into more balanced, informed, and impactful media narratives around Ghana-China cooperation.

Mr. Frimpong stated, ‘The media holds power in shaping public perception. This fellowship was designed to provide not just information, but immersion, engagement, and critical context. You are now ambassadors of balanced storytelling.’ Throughout the programme, participants engaged with Chinese enterprises such as China State Hualong Construction Ghana Ltd, visited cultural and diplomatic institutions, and received firsthand insights from key figures including Mr. Tong Defa, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana.

While some fellows described the journey as transformative and enlightening, others expressed gratitude to ACCPA for creating a platform that bridged media, diplomacy, and development in a practical and impactful way. The fellowship, the first of its kind in Ghana, has been praised for going beyond classroom learning to offer field-based exposure and real-world conversations around Africa-China relations. Participants also received certificates of completion in a brief closing ceremony.

As ACCPA looks to expand future editions of the fellowship, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing informed African voices and fostering constructive international dialogue.
