Madam Shirley Kyei Advocates for Increased Female Representation in Parliament.

Kumasi: Madam Shirley Kyei, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Atwima Nwabiagya South, has voiced her support for the increased inclusion of women in parliament ahead of the upcoming elections on December 7. As the first female candidate to contest for the Atwima Nwabiagya South seat, Kyei is determined to bring a new perspective to political representation and amplify women's voices in decision-making processes.According to Ghana News Agency, Kyei emphasizes the significant role women play in the voting population, particularly in her constituency, advocating for their voices to be heard in national development. She believes that women are best positioned to articulate and address issues concerning their community's development, underscoring the importance of electing more women to positions of authority like parliament.Currently serving as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ghana's Minerals Commission, Kyei is optimistic about her campaign's momentum. She noted that her candida cy has energized her constituents, who are eager to see a female representative in parliament for the first time. Despite Atwima Nwabiagya South being a known stronghold for the NPP, Kyei has passionately appealed to the electorate to maximize their votes for her and the NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia, to demonstrate robust support for women and the party.Kyei's educational background includes attending Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School, followed by further studies in the United Kingdom, where she earned degrees from De Montfort and Greenwich universities, as well as an MBA from Accra Business School. Her involvement with the NPP extends to her previous role as the women's organizer in the UK, highlighting her longstanding commitment to grassroots politics and inclusivity.During the NPP primaries, Kyei successfully faced off against three male contenders, marking her victory as a testament to the growing acceptance of women in leadership. The Atwima Nwabiagya South constituency, carved out of the Atwima Nwabiagya Constituency where former President John Agyekum Kufuor served as MP, has consistently supported the NPP, as evidenced by their overwhelming wins in both presidential and parliamentary elections since 1996. In the 2020 elections, President Akufo-Addo secured 58,109 votes (80.24%), while Former President Mahama received 13,827 votes (19.09%).
