Mrs Lordina Mahama a Former First Lady and the Founder of the Lordina Foundation has inaugurated a refurbished ultra-modern maternity and children's ward for the Nkoranza Health Centre in the Bono East Region.The foundation which seeks to improve the welfare of children and women refurbished the facility to provide quality healthcare delivery for pregnant women and children.It has a modern neonatal intensive care unit, advanced theatre, monitoring services, two surgical beds, shadow-less theatre lamps with accessories and physiotherapy machines.Other equipment and facilities include electronic delivery beds, a consulting room, examination rooms, and beds, ultrasound machines, 33 beds, 10 baby cots, and three standard incubators.?Mrs Mahama described the facility as pivotal to ensuring a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery, saying that would help put the nation on the edge to attain the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3) of good health and well-being by 2030.She said her foun dation was committed to improving maternal and child health to reduce maternal and newborn deaths in the country.'It is unacceptable for a woman to die in the process of giving birth. Unfortunately, more women die during childbirth in Ghana and Africa', Mrs Mahama stated.The former President John Dramani Mahama who accompanied his wife, said the health centre was established in 1954 and had since served the people, hence the need to improve its condition and for quality healthcare delivery.Mr Mahama said he was worried that the health centre had not seen major rehabilitation work and promised his next government would improve the facilities to serve the people well.He said the refurbishment of the centre was a major step to advance quality healthcare services, saying it would help provide comprehensive maternal and neonatal care and antenatal and postnatal services.Mr Christopher Atsu, the Medical Director, said the Centre needed to be expanded to meet the growing population of the area and thanked the foundation for the support.The refurbishment of the centre is in the right direction as it would enable the Nkoranza Health Centre to undertake basic health procedures without necessarily inconveniencing patients and health workers.Source: Ghana News Agency
