Accra: Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, the Minister of State in charge of Public Sector Reforms, will lead Ghana's delegation to the 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, from October 7 to 9.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Summit will gather Heads of States, Senior Government Officials, Civil Society Leaders, and other partners worldwide to exchange experiences, share best practices, and review progress on open governance reforms and the implementation of National Action Plans. The Open Government Partnership Ghana Office operates under the Public Sector Reform Secretariat.
The OGP is an international voluntary initiative aimed at securing governments' commitment to deepening democratic governance by promoting transparency, accountability, active citizen participation, technology, and innovation. The partnership was established in 2011 by government leaders and civil society advocates with eight founding member countries: Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States, endorsing an Open Government Declaration.
Since its inception, OGP's membership has expanded from eight to 76 National level members and 150 local Open Government Partnership members, including seven from Ghana. The Ghanaian delegation will comprise Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), some Members of Parliament, key sector ministers, government and public officials, and leaders of civil society organisations.
The release emphasized Ghana's commitment to transparency, accountability, citizen participation, and innovation in governance. The Public Sector Reform Secretariat and the OGP Ghana Office reiterated the government's dedication to advancing governance reforms that foster trust among public institutions and promote sustainable development.
OGP is based on the principle that open government is more accessible, responsive, and accountable to citizens, improving the relationship between people and their government with long-term benefits. The model ensures that Civil Society Organisations or direct citizen engagement plays a role in shaping and overseeing government performance.
Globally, more than 5,500 commitments have been made, reflecting the organisation's objective to inspire, connect, and enable a growing community of reformers and champions from government and civil society to take collective action.
