Accra: US President Donald Trump dismissed Saturday's mass protests against him and his government policies as a 'joke' and told reporters on Sunday that he is 'not a king.' The demonstrators 'are not representative of this country,' he told journalists aboard his government aircraft Air Force One. He claimed that all the new banners at the No Kings protests were likely funded by George Soros, who is a progressive philanthropist, and 'other radical left-wing lunatics. It looks like it was. We're checking it out.'
According to Ghana News Agency, Trump called the roughly 7 million protestors at the No Kings demonstrations across the country 'very small, very ineffective' and claimed the protestors were 'whacked out.' Trump added: 'I'm not a king. I work my ass off to make our country great.' This was the president's first public comment on the protests, which US media reported were largely peaceful.
On Sunday, Trump released a video clip apparently generated using artificial intelligence, and published on his platform Truth Social, depicting him as the pilot of a fighter jet labelled 'King Trump.' In the video, he drops brown sludge, resembling faeces, over demonstrators.
The organizers of the No Kings movement accuse Trump of disregarding the fundamental principles of the democratic rule of law and amassing a concentration of power that is unbefitting of a US president and more reminiscent of authoritarian rulers. The protestors expressed a wide range of concerns, from the Trump administration's radical approach to migrants and its healthcare policies, to fears that the United States could slide into fascism.
