Kwaso community organises peace walk ahead of the December elections

The Kwaso Local Council of Churches in partnership with the Kwaso Traditional Council, has launched a peace campaign ahead of the December general elections.The campaign involved a peace walk in the community to preach peace ahead of the December general elections and a symposium to sensitise the people on the need to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the elections.Hundreds of people including members of the clergy, traditional rulers, parliamentary candidates and their supporters, party members from all the political parties, as well as independent parliamentary candidates contesting in the Ejisu constituency, participated in the peace walk and symposium.Mr Samuel Oduro Frimpong, the Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive, said peace was critical in promoting development in every community and called on the people in the area to desist from acts that could create tension and disturbances before, during and after the elections.Reverend Charles Mpiani, the Chairman of the Kwaso Local Cou ncil of Churches, said the peace campaign was to draw the attention of all party supporters, candidates and members of the community that, they were all brothers and sisters.What they needed was peace and unity that would strengthen them to promote the needed development in the community and not violence or attacks on political opponents, he said.Nana Osei Fosu Adutwum II, the Kwasohene (chief), commended the local council of churches for the initiative to promote peace in the community ahead of the elections.He appealed to party supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that would not jeopardise the peace in the area.Source: Ghana News Agency
