Koforidua: Mr Suleyman Adama, the Acting Principal of the Islamic Mission Technical Institute at Koforidua in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, has appealed for support to improve infrastructure development at the Institute. He stated that a downpour in the area caused extensive destruction to the institute’s pavilion, which served as a classroom, workshop, and assembly hall, and has since disrupted academic activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Adama explained in an interview at Koforidua, near Duayaw-Nkwanta, that the destruction of the structure has significantly affected academic and practical studies. The pavilion, which accommodated 150 students, was a crucial part of the institute’s infrastructure. He highlighted challenges, including limited classroom space and financial constraints, stating that the institute is unable to construct permanent buildings due to a lack of funds.
Mr Adama emphasized the need for urgent assistance and appealed to wealthy individuals, organizations, and the government for support. He mentioned that some traditional leaders and representatives from the Islamic Mission Secretariat had visited to assess the level of damage. The Institute has also contacted the Tano North Municipal Assembly but has yet to receive a response. The institute requires classroom blocks, boys’ and girls’ dormitories, an ICT laboratory, and workshops.
Established in 2022, the Institute currently has 210 students and offers vocational and technical training in Electrical Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology, Automobile Engineering Technology, and Fashion Design Technology.
