Keta: The Keta Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region has confirmed an outbreak of avian influenza, also known as Bird Flu. The Veterinary Regional Laboratory in the area has verified the outbreak, urging residents to refrain from consuming birds to prevent further transmission.
According to Ghana News Agency, a press release issued on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, and signed by Mr. Bernard Lawer, the Municipality Veterinary Officer, called on all poultry farmers and the public to implement biosecurity measures to curb the spread of the disease. Residents have been advised to report any unusual deaths or signs in their poultry to the Veterinary and Agricultural Officers in the municipality.
Mr. Lawer emphasized that biosecurity measures are key in controlling the spread of avian influenza. Poultry farmers and the public have been advised to adopt necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their birds, including avoiding contact with infected birds, wearing protective clothing, and ensuring proper hygiene practices.
The outbreak has been confirmed in Abor within the municipality. Residents have been instructed to take precautionary measures and report any unusual incidents involving their poultry to veterinary officers to help identify, contain, and prevent further spread of the disease.
