Kadjebi: The Action Group for Development of Kadjebi-Akan, in partnership with the Chiefs and the District Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, has successfully organised residents of Kadjebi township for a communal labour effort aimed at cleaning the public cemetery.
According to Ghana News Agency, the two-hour activity saw participation from residents across the Kadjebi Central, Dubonku, Freetown, and Estate/Zongo electoral areas. Wofa Taye, the Leader and Spokesperson of the Action Group, highlighted that the initiative was designed to support the District Assembly's efforts, emphasizing that development is a collective responsibility. He further explained that the community could not rely solely on the Assembly for all services, thus motivating the mobilisation effort. The plan is for this exercise to be a regular occurrence and not just a one-time event.
Wofa Taye also noted that the group has been involved in other community enhancement projects, such as renovating a bungalow for the Physician Assistant at Kadjebi Health Centre and clearing the local market and police station. He mentioned that more projects are on the horizon, and stressed that the development of Kadjebi-Akan is their main priority. He appealed to the government for support, citing neglect of the district capital.
Mr. Isaac Abavon, the Assembly Member for the Dubonku Electoral Area, echoed the sentiment, stating that it is the responsibility of Assembly Members to rally their communities for such initiatives. He participated in the cemetery clean-up and encouraged his peers to mobilise their constituents for communal activities. Additionally, Mr. Abavon urged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to promote health and wellbeing.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the communal labour and suggested that the organisers consider making it a quarterly event to ensure ongoing environmental improvements in the community.
