Jospong and Komptech Enhance Waste Management Skills in Western Regions

Western: The Jospong Group of Companies, in collaboration with Komptech GmbH, has conducted a training program aimed at enhancing the capacity of waste managers in Ghana's Western and Western North regions. This initiative is part of their ongoing efforts to improve waste management practices across the country.

According to Ghana News Agency, the training was organized under the 'Jospong-Komptech Waste Academy' initiative and forms part of a broader series of capacity-building programs. Key focus areas of the training included Integrated Solid Waste Management, Circular Economy, Composting, Thermal Waste Recovery (Refuse Derived Fuel), Landfill Management, and Emissions Treatment.

Mr. Jacob Kwaku Ladi, Project Manager of the Jospong-Komptech Waste Academy, highlighted that the program was developed in collaboration with Komptech GmbH, the Austrian Development Agency, the Technical University of Vienna, and ICEP, a social impact NGO in Austria. The aim is to strengthen waste management processes in Ghana by targeting individuals engaged in environmental and sanitation services across both private and public sectors.

Brigadier General (Rtd) Mike Akpatsu, Head of Jospong Academy, noted that the academy had already trained numerous waste management professionals, including top executives and managers, since its launch in Accra last year. The training is facilitated by professionals from the Jospong Group who have received extensive training in Ghana and Austria, preparing them to serve as local trainers.

The initiative aims to extend the program to waste managers at regional and district levels across Ghana. The training sessions covered various aspects of waste management, with Mr. James Deku focusing on Integrated Solid Waste Management and Circular Economy, while Mr. Isaac Awuah taught Composting and ISWM elements. Other topics were covered by Mr. Israel Acheampong and Mr. Michael Ashaigbor, who discussed Thermal Energy Recovery and Waste Management's impact on the Sustainable Development Goals, respectively.

Participants expressed their satisfaction with the training, noting its potential to significantly improve waste management in their communities. Ms. Patience Baah Anyanful, a District Manager at the EffiaKwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, described the training as very educative and anticipates applying the acquired knowledge in her district.
