Beirut: Israeli strikes intensified across southern Lebanon on Saturday, targeting multiple locations and resulting in casualties.
According to Ghana News Agency, Lebanese security sources and the Health Ministry reported on the escalation of hostilities in the region.
In the village of Kounine, an Israeli airstrike targeted a car, resulting in the death of one person and injuring another, as confirmed by the Lebanese Health Ministry. The Israeli military later stated that the strike eliminated Hassan Muhammad Hammoudi, whom they described as responsible for Hezbollah's anti-tank missile operations in the Bint Jbeil sector.
In a separate incident later in the evening, an Israeli drone strike in the village of Mahrouni targeted a motorcycle, killing two individuals who were not immediately identified as Hezbollah operatives, according to the Health Ministry. The state-run Lebanese News Agency (NNA) also reported that two others were wounded when their car hit a roadside cement block during the attack.
These incidents are part of ongoing cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which have seen an increase in intensity despite international calls for de-escalation. In Beirut, Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naeem Qassem expressed a firm stance against Israel during a religious ceremony, emphasizing their readiness to confront and defeat Israel, stating that they will not remain silent in the face of aggression.
The situation continues to be volatile as both sides exchange fire, raising fears of a potential wider conflict along the Lebanon-Israel border. On Friday, the Israeli military reported conducting a series of heavy airstrikes on Hezbollah facilities in the southern part of Lebanon.
