Tunis: The Independent High Authority for Elections (French: ISIE) assigned the executive management to develop a draft amendment to regulatory decision No. 8 of 2018 to ensure the smooth running of the electoral process.A working meeting between the ISIE members and Executives of the Central Directorate of Legal Affairs and Campaign Control was held, on Wednesday, to examine the amendment of the decision setting the rules and conditions to be respected by the media sector during election periods.Participants underlined the need to introduce amendments enshrining the fundamental principles of the campaign as stipulated in Article 52 of the electoral law as well as monitor whether they are respected by the media sector, including audiovisual media and electronic websites.They also insisted on the need to apply Article 66 of the electoral law which prohibits candidates from making use of foreign media not subject to Tunisian legislation.Ensuring neutrality towards all candidates, equal opportunities bet ween them, objectivity and balance of media coverage as well as transparency of funding sources were also raised during the meeting.Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
