Irish PM Calls for Increased International Pressure on Israel Following UN Genocide Report

Accra: Irish Prime Minister Miche¡l Martin has called for an intensification of international pressure on Israel to halt its assault on Gaza, following a UN-commissioned report which concluded that genocide is occurring. The finding was reached by independent experts, commissioned by the United Nations' Human Rights Council. The report's conclusions have been rejected by Israel.

According to Ghana News Agency, Martin described the report as 'serious' and 'comprehensive' during a Fianna F¡il party event in Cork. He emphasized the significance of the report, stating, "This is a very definitive, significant report." Martin also mentioned that the findings of the International Court of Justice case, alleging Israeli genocide in Gaza, are awaited, a case in which South Africa has filed and Ireland has intervened.

The UN report indicates that four out of five criteria of genocide have been met concerning Israel's actions in Gaza. Martin highlighted the extensive destruction in Gaza, noting that "every residential tower block is being destroyed" and that 90% of housing, along with education, healthcare, and fertility facilities, has been demolished. He stressed that the report clearly shows a genocide is taking place and called for Israel and its government to be held accountable.

The Prime Minister expressed concern over the continuous violence and criticized statements from Israeli officials, questioning the mentality behind the government's actions. Martin urged the United States, Europe, and the international community to increase pressure on Israel to end the violence and facilitate a significant surge of aid into Gaza. He also called for the unconditional release of hostages by Hamas, advocating for an end to the ongoing conflict.
