ICU-Ghana Urges COCOBOD Local Union to Foster Industrial Peace and Harmony

Accra: The leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers' Union (ICU), Ghana, has urged the executive of the COCOBOD Local Union to work with the management of the company to ensure industrial peace and harmony. Mr Morgan Ayawine, the General Secretary of ICU, Ghana, made this call during the swearing-in of the executives of the National Consultative Council of COCOBOD Local Union.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Ayawine advised the executives to uphold leadership qualities such as commitment, sacrifice, humility, dedication, fairness, transparency, honesty, probity, and accountability. He emphasized the importance of these attributes while leading workers during the challenging times faced by the cocoa industry, highlighting COCOBOD's crucial role in Ghana's economy.

Mr Ayawine reminded the union executives of the historical significance of the cocoa industry's management-union relationship, which has been pivotal in establishing cocoa as a cornerstone of the Ghanaian economy. He expressed confidence that with the right policies from the government and COCOBOD, Ghana can enhance cocoa quality, increase production, and regain its leading position in the global market.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between the national union and COCOBOD management at various levels to address issues related to productivity and staff welfare. Mr Ayawine assured the new executives of the National Union's unwavering support and encouraged them to seek guidance from the national union when necessary.

The newly sworn-in executives of the National Consultative Council of COCOBOD Local Union include Mr Eric Tuckson as the Chairman, Mr Frank Abuuro as the Vice Chairman, and Mr Daniel Samari as the Secretary. Other members are Mr Dennis Sarpong as Assistant Secretary, Mr Richard Nana A. Kumah as First Trustee, Mr Terry Nii Joy Nelson as Second Trustee, Mr Bright Fenteng Asomaning as Executive Member, Ms Ophelia Mensah Dzade as the Women Representative, and Mr Dennis Kwaku Boamah as the Youth Representative.
