Court Grants Driver Bail Over Pedestrian’s Death

Accra: The Kaneshie District Court One has granted a GHC70,000.00 bail with two sureties to a driver who knocked down a pedestrian, resulting in the pedestrian's death.

According to Ghana News Agency, the plea of the driver, Eric Arko, was not taken, and he is scheduled to reappear in court on March 19, 2025. The prosecution team, led by Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah, informed the court that the incident occurred on February 13, 2025, at approximately 2300 hours. Arko was driving a Mercedes Benz when he struck Eric Kwame Anane Darko, a 54-year-old pedestrian, while traveling from Odorkor to Kasoa.

The prosecution noted that Darko sustained injuries in the accident and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. In seeking bail for Arko, his counsel argued that he had a fixed place of residence and would cooperate fully with the investigation. The counsel further assured the court that Arko had reputable individuals to act as sureties and that he would assist the deceased's family with the burial arrangements.
