Tamale: HOPin Academy, an entrepreneurship ecosystem support organisation in Tamale, has marked this year's International Women's Day (IWD) with a call for women to embrace technology innovations for sustainable development.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event, themed 'Accelerate Action: Forging Women's Economic Empowerment for a Brighter Tomorrow', brought together young women entrepreneurs, students from tertiary institutions, and others from the informal sector in the Northern Region. The focus was on recognising the contributions of young women to national development, particularly in technology and entrepreneurship.
Miss Augustina Abariche, Communication and Social Media Manager at HOPin Academy, spoke at the event in Tamale, emphasizing the importance of equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills to leverage technology. This would boost their businesses and create employment opportunities for other young women across the country. The platform was designed to enable women in tech-related fields to share their experiences, inspiring participants to pursue similar career paths.
Miss Abariche stressed the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and synergy as strategies for building successful technology careers. Miss Shafawu Mohammed Nurudeen, a software engineer and women's empowerment advocate, encouraged participants to challenge outdated gender norms and pursue their passions with determination and hard work. She also urged the government and stakeholders to invest in technology and engineering sectors by providing necessary infrastructure and resources.
Miss Benedicta Awunpoka Akalari, an entrepreneur and event participant, highlighted the importance of using social media platforms to advertise businesses and products, creating a competitive advantage in the digital market space.
International Women's Day is observed annually on March 8 to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness of ongoing disparities, and encourage action towards a more inclusive society.
