Cape coast: The Holy Child Senior High School (SHS) in Cape Coast Saturday launched its 80th Anniversary at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra, aimed, among other things, to raise funds for school projects.According to Ghana News Agency, the event, which attracted former students within the various year groups, served as an opportunity for socializing, celebrating the school's academic and transformative achievements, and raising funds for more projects within the school.Mrs. Mary Brown, National Vice President of the Holy Child Former Students Association, said the anniversary celebration served as a reminder to honor the legacies of the school's founders, whose efforts, within eight decades, had empowered many women and girls. 'As we embark on this journey, we honor the legacy of our founders, who envisioned a school that would empower young women to make a difference in the world,' she said. 'Today we celebrate the countless lives that have been touched, minds that have been expanded, and futures shaped by our institutions.'Madam Linda Appiah, the Headmistress, commended the alumni for their contribution to infrastructure and logistical development of the school and urged them to do more to make it self-sufficient. 'We cannot lose track of the fact that the school has been blessed with the state-of-the-art ultra-modern library. Let's all remember that every contribution, every ounce of support brings us closer to the Holy Child School we all want to see,' she said. She called for assistance to retool the school's science laboratories to enhance the teaching and learning of related subjects. 'Our science laboratories need further restocking with tools and equipment. The school's regimental band cannot boast of any instruments. We have to borrow or rent instruments from sister schools whenever the band has to perform,' she said.Touching on sports, Madam Appiah said the facilities and equipment needed a complete replacement. Ms. Isabel Boateng, a Legal Practitioner, and the Guest of Honour, e ncouraged all old students to give back to the school in appreciation for its contribution to shaping their lives.
