Ho Fire Station Conducts Fire Simulation Exercise to Boost Emergency Preparedness at NCA and NPA

General

Accra: The Ho Municipal Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully conducted a comprehensive fire simulation exercise at the National Communications Authority (NCA) Tower. This initiative was aimed at enhancing emergency response and safety awareness among the staff of both the NCA and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise, led by Mr. Seth Tay, Divisional Officer Grade II (DOII), focused on key areas such as evacuation procedures, practical firefighting techniques, and the effective use of fire extinguishers during emergencies. This simulation is part of the GNFS’s ongoing public safety campaign, which seeks to promote fire prevention and preparedness across workplaces in the Volta Region.

Mr. Tay emphasized the importance of the exercise in assessing the readiness of staff to respond effectively in the event of a fire outbreak. He stated, “We want to ensure that workers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to protect lives and property. Fire safety is a shared responsibility, and training like this helps reduce panic and confusion during real incidents.”

He further encouraged corporate institutions to regularly organize such drills to strengthen workplace safety measures and emergency coordination systems. During the exercise, staff were engaged in step-by-step evacuation procedures, alarm activation demonstrations, and the proper handling of fire extinguishers. Participants also learned to identify fire hazards, maintain clear exit routes, and respond swiftly to alarms to minimize casualties and property loss.

Ms. Diana Adom, a staff member of the NCA, praised the Ghana National Fire Service for the practical session, describing it as “an eye-opener that brings safety lessons to life.” She added, “We now understand how to act swiftly during a fire emergency instead of panicking. This training has really boosted our confidence.”

Other participants expressed their appreciation for the hands-on experience and committed to sharing the knowledge gained with colleagues to enhance overall workplace safety.

Mr. Tay reiterated the GNFS’s commitment to partnering with institutions in the region to build safety consciousness and ensure compliance with fire safety standards. He affirmed the Station’s dedication to maintaining regular fire education and drills as part of its preventive strategy to protect lives and property in the municipality.
