Heritage Month Celebration: Takoradi Presby Basic School Embraces Traditional Attire

Takoradi: Teachers and students of Takoradi Presbyterian Primary and Junior High School (JHS) have gone traditional to commemorate this year's Heritage Month. In place of their uniforms, the students were adorned in their traditional customs to reflect their individual regions of origin and portray the rich Ghanaian cultural heritage in the school.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Joyce Opare Addo, the Headmistress of Takoradi Presby JHS, stated that the move was in compliance with a policy directive by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Education Directorate. This directive aims to ensure that students wear traditional outfits to school every Friday throughout the month. She emphasized the importance of exposing children to their cultural roots through dressing, thereby allowing them to come to school in such traditional attire.

Mrs. Addo highlighted that as part of the activities to mark Heritage Month, teachers and students would also wear costumes designed in the Ghana national colors. This initiative is seen as a way of instilling a sense of patriotism among the students. Additionally, the school plans to organize a food bazaar to showcase rich Ghanaian dishes on the last Friday of the Heritage Month.

She further called on authorities to incorporate traditional dressing styles into the country's educational system, suggesting that it would help students appreciate their cultural heritage through their attire. The Heritage Month is observed in Ghana throughout March every year to celebrate the country's cultural and historical heritage. It aims to promote domestic tourism, increase awareness about Ghana's heritage sites, and boost the creative and arts industry and cultural diversity.
