Accra: Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Kpando Heart of Lions 2-0 to clinch the Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. It was the second consecutive Homowo Cup for the Phobians, who dominated the encounter to win the coveted trophy as they prepare for the upcoming football season.According to Ghana News Agency, new signing Frank Duku opened the scoring for the Phobians in the 36th minute after a brilliant assist from Ali Mohammed, putting the home side in firm grasp of the game. Heart of Lions, despite playing some good football, lacked the cutting edge, with Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare putting up some good saves.The Phobians doubled their advantage in the 40th minute through Hamza Issah, who flipped the ball past the Heart of Lions goalkeeper in a dazzling strike. The second half of the game was fairly balanced, with Heart of Lions poised to come back from two goals, but the Phobians were very strong in defence.Hearts of Oak held on firmly to their lead and triumphed at the end of the 90 minutes to win back-to-back Homowo Cup titles against the same opponents. Up next for Hearts of Oak would be the GHALCA top four tournament where they would come up against the likes of Kotoko, Bibiani Gold Stars and Heart of Lions.
