Hapag-Lloyd Delegation Explores Expanded Operations with Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority

Accra: A high-level delegation from Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world's leading shipping lines, has paid a working visit to Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA). The visit was aimed at exploring areas of mutual interest and deepening collaboration with the GPHA, as well as cementing the global container shipping company's commitment to continuing and expanding its operations in Ghana.

According to Ghana News Agency, the delegation included Christiaan Goeman Borgesius, Senior Director of Operations, Middle East; Jubil Thankachan, Director of Marine Operations, Middle East; Thomas Elling, Managing Director, West Africa; and Adian Hill, Head of Operations, West Africa. The team commended GPHA for handling their vessels efficiently and professionally, noting that their experiences have been consistently impressive.

Hapag-Lloyd plans to increase its presence in Ghana, which was a significant reason for the visit. The delegation aimed to familiarise themselves with the operational facilities and capacities of both the Tema and Takoradi Ports. Brig. Gen. Tanye-Kulono provided a briefing on GPHA's plans to dredge the Tema Port to accommodate larger vessels and enhance overall port performance. He encouraged Hapag-Lloyd to consider deploying container vessels to the Port of Takoradi due to its rising prominence and ongoing infrastructure development.

Additionally, Brig. Gen. Tanye-Kulono urged Hapag-Lloyd to increase its cargo volumes through Ghana's ports to reinforce the strong partnership and contribute to the growth of the maritime trade corridor in the sub-region. The meeting was attended by Mr. Tebon Zumah, the Director of Tema Port; Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako, the General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Affairs; and Mr. Khalid Nuhu, General Manager, Finance.
