GRATIS Foundation Repositions for 24-Hour Economy Implementation

Accra: Dr. Isaac Adaebsah, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the GRATIS Foundation, has announced that the foundation is repositioning itself to contribute to the implementation of a 24-hour economy, aiming to enhance job creation and reduce poverty. He outlined plans for the foundation to take over and manage 31 Technology Solutions Centers (TSCs) from the Rural Enterprises Programme (REP) to drive industrialization efforts.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Adaebsah explained that the REP programme has concluded, and the TSCs will soon be handed over to GRATIS. He emphasized that with these centers, the foundation will be well-equipped to employ more youth and transition the primary agriculture economy to a secondary agriculture focus. The TSCs are designed to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises with technology solutions, technical training, and the fabrication of agro-processing machinery, promoting technology transfer and productivity, particularly in agriculture and agro-industry.

Dr. Adaebsah spoke about the foundation's readiness for the 24-hour economy during an interview at Jema in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region. He revealed that the foundation has received more employment opportunities from the World Food Programme and other entities, which will help employ more youth in line with the 24-hour economy objectives.

He underscored the significance of robust industrialization for the nation's development and economic prosperity, assuring that the foundation will align itself to enroll more youth into fabrication and contribute effectively to the 24-hour economy. GRATIS Foundation, under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, is a technology transfer, training, and manufacturing agency. It was incorporated in 1999, evolving from the Ghana Regional Appropriate Technology Industrial Service project, which was established in 1987 with support from the European Union and the Canadian International Development Agency to promote small-scale industrialization in Ghana.
