Government Pledges to Improve Worker Welfare in Bono Region

Sunyani: Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of formal sector employees during a Workers’ Day event at the Sunyani Jubilee Park. Under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, Akwaboa assured that workers would receive equitable remuneration to promote inclusion, improve productivity, and stimulate economic growth.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Regional Minister addressed the legitimate concerns of workers regarding wages, job security, and working conditions, promising that the government would engage with organized labor to address these issues. Akwaboa highlighted the government’s efforts to boost job productivity and workers’ welfare, alongside its commitment to implementing policies aimed at job creation.

Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister, also emphasized the need for collaboration between employers and employees to foster a conducive working environment. He urged organized labor to lead the way in promoting equitable labor practices and improved working conditions, stressing that cooperation would help build a Ghana that respects and safeguards workers’ rights.

Madam Comfort Asomah, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Secretary of the Trade Unions Congress (TUC), reiterated the importance of the event’s theme, advocating for a comprehensive review of Ghana’s wage system. She argued that the current salary framework is inadequate and fails to reflect the actual cost of living, calling for systemic changes to better support workers.

In recognition of their hard work, 18 deserving workers from the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions were honored during the celebration.
