Accra: The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Sports - Ghana, has inaugurated 10 committees to spearhead sports development, Olympic and Commonwealth Sport Movement in Ghana. The committees made up of carefully selected individuals have a primary goal of promoting sports development especially in schools and at the grassroots level while empowering women and female athletes' participation in sports.
According to Ghana News Agency, the committees include Legal, Marketing, Fundraising and Sponsorship, Olympic Education, Culture and School Sports, Games and Technical, and National Federations Relations. The rest are Medical and Anti-Doping, Events and Programmes, Finance, Women in Sports, and Government Relations and Stakeholders Committee.
At a brief ceremony to swear in the members of the committee, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), thanked the members for responding to the call to serve and urged them to be dedicated and remain focused in promoting the GOC's interest. He acknowledged the demanding nature of the task ahead and expressed confidence that the members appointed would demonstrate true leadership, resilience, and collaboration throughout their tenure.
Mr. Afadzinu charged the committee members to be bold and challenge outdated assumptions. He emphasized the importance of accountability to the GOC Executive Board and to aspiring athletes, urging members to collaborate and overcome challenges such as bureaucracy and budget constraints. He congratulated the members, highlighting their role in shaping the future of the Olympic Movement and sports in Ghana.
Mr. Kobby Woyome, Chairman for Government Relations sub-committee, speaking on behalf of the general membership, expressed their enthusiasm to work with the Olympic Committee and utilize their experience and network to influence sports development in Ghana.
The committees comprise various individuals, each contributing their expertise to different areas. The Legal Committee includes Mohammed Sahnoon, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Eva Okyere, Juliana Addo Yobo, and Prosper Harrison Addo. The Marketing, Fundraising and Sponsorship Committee features Mawuko Afadzinu, Dr. Ben Asante, Adelaide Abbiw, Nathaniel Johnson, Ken Ashigbey, Mawuli Ocloo, and Cynthia Ofori.
The Olympic Education, Culture and School Sports Committee consists of Bawah Fuseini, Dr. Austin Luguterah, Michael Ntow Ayeh, Rafatu Inusah, George Lamptey, and Cathrine Tukpe. The Games and Technical Committee includes Frederick Lartey Otu, Vivian Dougblor, Richmond Quarcoo, Prof. Sarpong, Iddrisu Gamel Ayambire, and Shaban Mohammed.
The National Federations Relations Committee is represented by George Owusu Ansah, Delphina Quaye, George Tettey, Philip Ameku, and Rafiq Mohammed Arthur. The Government Relations and Stakeholders Committee comprises Mr. Wisdom Kobina Woyome, Bernard Mornah, Aurora Commodore-Toppar, Richmond Quarcoo, and Ali Shaib Tanko.
Women in Sports Commission members include Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Mrs. Joyce Mahama, Madam Elizabeth King, Helena Williams, Christiana Ashley, Delphina Quaye, Rafatu Inusah, Phillipina Frimpong, Rita Odei Asare, Cathrine Tukpe, and Ayishatu Farida Iddriss.
The Finance Committee features Mawuko Afadzinu, Evans Yeboah, Edward Nii Lante Bannerman, Ato Van-Ess, Julie Asante, Rodney Oddoye, and Robert Yeboah Amponsah. The Events and Programmes Committee is composed of Kamal Sulley, Samuel Ayer, Isaac Abe Duah, Rita Odei Asare, and Yaw Boakye Yiadom.
The Medical and Anti-doping Committee includes Dr. Julia Derban, Dr. Akwesi Adomako, Prof. Jonathan Quartey, Paapa Kwesi Ampiah, Prince Azanu, Justine Sitsofe Dzadzetor, Dr. Beatrice Dwumfour Williams, Prince Addo, and Dr. Abena Yeboaa Tannor.
