The timely intervention by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Thursday morning averted a potential disaster, as an articulated truck, transporting twenty-two pallets of hydrogen peroxide, nearly caught flames at Assin Kwataa near Assin Fosu in the Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.Approximately a hundred meters from Assin Kwataa, on a steep incline, two of the pallets ruptured under pressure, causing a significant release of vapour that filled the atmosphere and some foam dropping to the ground. The unforeseen event prompted the 38-year-old driver, Mr David Kusi, to swiftly bring the vehicle to a halt and promptly notified the GNFS.The situation necessitated a collaborative effort from both the GNFS and the Police, lasting nearly four hours to successfully contain and resolve the hazardous circumstances.Fortunately, there were no casualties, although the incident did lead to significant disruptions in traffic flow along the Assin Fosu- Kumasi highway.Serious eye or skin burns and bleach ing of the hair may result from contact with hydrogen peroxide solutions.Generally, the more exposure to the substance, the more severe the effects.Assistant Officer, Jans Stephen Mensah, the officer on duty at Assin Fosu, informed the Ghana News Agency that the articulated truck, with registration no. GE 6077-19, was transporting the cargo from Tema to a mining establishment in Ayanfuri in the Upper Denkyira West District when the incident occurred.Source: Ghana News Agency
