Keta: Residents in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region are demanding explanation from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for the frequent power outages in their communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the residents complained that the frequent power outages, which commenced about two weeks ago, were distracting their work and called for urgent attention to address the challenges. Mr. Clinton Agbesi, a fashion designer in Keta, emphasized the need for a proper explanation from ECG regarding the unstable power supply affecting their daily activities.
Mr. Agbesi expressed concern over how insufficient power supply was affecting daily routines and forcing workers to extend their hours, as the timing of power cuts and restorations were unpredictable. He appealed to the ECG authorities to urgently explain the situation to the public and work to provide at least a 24-hour stable power supply to support local businesses and economic activities.
He suggested that if the challenges were significant and could not be resolved swiftly, ECG should provide a timetable to help consumers plan and prevent damage to equipment. Madam Selinam Celestine Kemeh, a cold-store owner, shared her experience with the power outages, noting that they had damaged some of her freezers, affecting her business output.
Other businesses, including restaurants, supermarkets, hotels, guest houses, and nightclubs, reported using generators due to insufficient power supply, particularly at night, which increased operational costs due to expensive fuel consumption. Madam Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer, assured that the challenges would be rectified soon and mentioned that initial issues in tidal wave communities had been addressed.
She confirmed that reports of the frequent outages had been received and that their team of engineers was diligently working to resolve the issues and restore regular power supply. She urged residents to remain calm while the ECG worked to identify and rectify any challenges.
