Accra: Mr Thomas Tanko Musah, the Secretary-General of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidency. The visit aimed to congratulate President Mahama on his victory in the December 7, 2024, general election.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Musah emphasized that Ghanaians had spoken clearly during the elections and expressed confidence that with divine help, President Mahama would fulfill his promises, especially those related to teachers. He mentioned that GNAT had previously taken out full-page advertisements in the Daily Graphic and the Ghanaian Times to congratulate both President Mahama and their sector minister, Mr Haruna Iddrisu.
Mr Musah invited President Mahama to be the special guest of honour at the GNAT National Delegate Congress in January 2026. Additionally, he extended an invitation for the President to commission a PET scan at the Sweden-Ghana Medical Centre, which was originally started by the Swedish Government but has since been acquired by GNAT.
He highlighted the significance of the PET scan, calling it the best in West Africa, and appealed to President Mahama to improve the road leading to the medical centre to enhance accessibility for Ghanaians. Mr Musah also discussed various investments GNAT is undertaking.
President Mahama expressed gratitude towards GNAT for their contributions to national development and assured them of his government's dedication to improving the working and living conditions of teachers. He emphasized the importance of teachers in Ghana's education system and nation-building efforts.
Mr Kwame Pianim, a consultant to GNAT, praised President Mahama as a responsible leader with a listening ear, capable of resetting the nation during this critical time in Ghana's history.
