Ghanaian Boxing Great Nana Yaw Konadu Urges Investments into Boxing

Sunyani: Ghanaian boxing great, Nana Yaw Konadu has called on President Mahama to prioritise and invest into the sport for the nation to train skilled boxers for international bouts and to derive the optimum benefit from the sport.

According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Konadu emphasized that boxing has become a lucrative sport globally, offering numerous job opportunities for young people. He urged the government to focus on developing infrastructure, including coaching and training facilities, to support the sport's growth.

Nana Konadu expressed concern over the perception of boxing in Ghana, noting that it has been unfairly associated with the background and labeled as a sport for hustlers. He lamented the lack of necessary investments in the sport, which could otherwise contribute significantly to the country's development.

The former world champion, who held titles in two weight classes, highlighted the potential of the Bono Region, which has produced talented boxers. However, he pointed out that a lack of infrastructure and qualified coaches hinders the development of young talent. He encouraged aspiring boxers to relocate to Accra to further their careers.

Nana Konadu stressed the need for modern training equipment, standard gyms, and boxing rings in various regions to help identify and nurture young talent. He called on President Mahama to invest in constructing these facilities to better position the regions for developing skilled boxers.
