Ghana Tourism Authority Partners with Ga Mantse for 2025 Homowo Festival

Accra: The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is set to partner with the Ga Traditional Council, led by its President, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, to elevate the celebration of the upcoming Homowo Festival. The partnership was announced following a courtesy call by the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, and her team of directors on King Teiko Tsuru, who also serves as the Ga Mantse, at his Palace in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the visit served as an official introduction of the GTA's leadership to the traditional authority and was seen as a respectful gesture in line with their mandate under Legislative Instrument 817 (2011), which tasks the Authority with the promotion of Ghana's tourism. Mrs. Houadjeto emphasized the importance of working with the custodians of cultural assets in the Ga Traditional land, noting that many key tourist activities occur there.

Mrs. Houadjeto highlighted the significance of the area under the Ga Mantse's jurisdiction, which includes historical forts, castles, and a monkey sanctuary, as vital assets in promoting Ghana's tourism industry. She stressed the need to engage with traditional authorities to share their vision and collaborate on elevating tourism efforts.

The CEO expressed the GTA's commitment to supporting the festival's organization and visibility, aiming for an impactful celebration that respects tradition. King Teiko Tsuru echoed the importance of the Homowo Festival in showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Ga people, aiming to enhance its appreciation among domestic and international tourists.

The Ga Mantse noted the festival's international recognition, particularly among the Gas in the Diaspora, and emphasized aligning it with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Two, which focuses on eradicating hunger. He stated that the festival would serve as a platform to raise awareness and contribute to eradicating hunger in Ghana, especially in marginalized communities.

Highlighting the tourism potential of the Greater Accra Region, King Teiko Tsuru pointed to attractions like beaches, monkey sanctuaries, and historic sites as potential revenue drivers for the local economy. To ensure sustained engagement, he proposed providing office space for the GTA within the Palace and requested the Authority to delegate a liaison officer for constant communication.

King Teiko Tsuru congratulated Mrs. Houadjeto on her appointment and offered prayers for her success in her endeavors.
