Accra: The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MOTAI) and Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), will on Friday commemorate the 2025 MSME Day with a national celebration in Accra. The event on the theme: ‘Empowering MSMEs, Connecting Entrepreneurs for a Digital and Sustainable Future,’ is being held in collaboration with key stakeholders within the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) ecosystem.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event will highlight the Government’s renewed push for digital transformation, inclusive economic growth, and strengthened institutional support for MSMEs as drivers of innovation, job creation, and resilience. The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, speaking ahead of the celebration, emphasized the government’s renewed commitment to building an economy where every Ghanaian entrepreneur, no matter how small, could grow, innovate, and compete on the global stage.
Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare stated, ‘MSMEs are the backbone of our national transformation, and we are positioning Ghanaian MSMEs to not only thrive locally but to become active players in global supply chains. By embracing digital tools and platforms, our entrepreneurs can break traditional barriers, expand their market reach, and compete confidently on the international stage.’
Ms. Margaret Ansei, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, said this year’s celebration aimed to highlight the vital role MSMEs play in driving inclusive and sustainable development, especially in job creation, wealth creation, and innovation. A key goal is to promote the adoption of digital tools and technologies, targeting at least 70% of participating MSMEs.
The event will also seek to connect 200 MSMEs with essential digital infrastructure and mobile banking services to enhance operational efficiency and access to finance. Ms. Ansei expressed pride in supporting this year’s MSME Day under the UN in Ghana Joint Programme on Leveraging Digital Ecosystems for Increased MSME Productivity, funded by the European Union through the UN Joint SDG Fund.
Arianna Gasparri, Technical Specialist at UNCDF Ghana, remarked, ‘This initiative goes beyond funding; it’s about building resilient systems that unlock private sector investment in underserved markets. This year’s MSME Day event is one of many critical platforms through which we harness digital opportunity to empower MSMEs and drive inclusive growth.’
Angela Mensah Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer for MTN Ghana, commended the GEA and its partners for the initiative to bring all players in the ecosystem together to deliberate on issues that will upscale MSMEs operations in Ghana. She affirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to providing MSMEs with digital solutions that allow them to connect to the rest of the world, operate more efficiently, and gain access to digital finance services conveniently on MoMo.
The 2025 MSME Day will bring together over 250 stakeholders from government, development partners, the private sector, academia, and MSMEs, with a livestream audience expected to exceed 1,000 viewers both locally and internationally. Activities for the day include a high-level policy dialogue, MSME Clinic, capacity-building initiatives, a digital innovation showcase, and a Made-in-Ghana exhibition.
The event will focus on inspiring success stories, promoting peer-to-peer learning, and tackling longstanding challenges confronting entrepreneurs. A curated exhibition will feature innovative, high-quality ‘Made-in-Ghana’ products and services to enhance visibility and market access for local businesses.
Through dedicated business clinics, participants will receive on-the-spot support from regulatory agencies and financial institutions on issues such as compliance, access to finance, and business development. Seasoned entrepreneurs will share their personal journeys, offering valuable insights and practical lessons to motivate and guide emerging enterprises.
Ghana’s 2025 MSME Day celebration represents a unified national commitment to create an enabling environment for MSMEs to thrive in the digital age, contribute meaningfully to economic growth, and build a sustainable future for all.
