Ghana to Host 2025 World Scrabble Championship.

Ghana: Ghana has been awarded the rights to host the World Scrabble Championship, after edging out Thailand in the bidding process. This marks the first time Ghana will host the championship and the second time it will be held in West Africa. The event is scheduled to take place from November 7 to 16, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.According to Ghana News Agency, the championship will feature two main events, the World Team Scrabble Championship (WTSC) and the World English Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC). The WTSC will bring together teams of five players from 16 countries, including the United States and Canada, to compete for national glory. Meanwhile, the WESPAC championship will include over 600 participants from 30 countries, making it a global gathering of Scrabble enthusiasts.In a media brief, the Scrabble Association of Ghana (SCAG), led by Captain Haruna Adamu, expressed enthusiasm for the event. "We are thrilled to bring the world of Scrabble to Ghana, and we're committed to making it a memorable experience for all participants," Adamu stated. He highlighted Ghana's rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality, indicating that these elements will contribute to an unforgettable experience for all involved.Adamu also emphasized ongoing interactions with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority, to ensure the event's success. "This event will not only showcase Ghana's hospitality but also provide a significant boost to our economy through tourism and infrastructure development," he noted. The influx of visitors is expected to stimulate local businesses and create opportunities for economic growth.SCAG has planned various side events and activities to complement the championship, including a Last Chance Qualifier on November 11. This qualifier will be governed by internationally recognized rules, with a ratings system used to determine winners.
