Ghana Signs MoU to Send Nurses to Grenada

Accra: Ghana and Grenada have formalized an agreement for recruiting Ghanaian nurses to work in Grenada, a Caribbean island nation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at a ceremony held at the Presidency in Accra during a luncheon hosted by President John Dramani Mahama in honor of the visiting Grenadian Prime Minister, Dickon Amiss Thomas Mitchell.

According to Ghana News Agency, the MoU was signed by Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Grenada's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, Mr. Joseph Andall. President Mahama stated that Grenada's interest in recruiting Ghanaian nurses and allied health professionals presents a valuable opportunity for structured collaboration between the two countries. He emphasized the international recognition of Ghanaian health workers for their professionalism and compassion and expressed a keen interest in exploring arrangements that address both nations' needs.

President Mahama also highlighted the potential outcomes of the inaugural session of the Ghana-Grenada Political Consultations, aiming to deepen political, economic, and cultural engagements. He described the relationship between Ghana and Grenada as an excellent model of South-South cooperation. Discussions with Prime Minister Mitchell led to mutual agreements on expanding collaboration in key areas, focusing on utilizing comparative advantages for mutual growth.

In education, both countries are considering partnerships through teacher exchanges, student mobility, and research collaboration. In agriculture, there is potential for collaboration in climate-resilient farming, food security, and agribusiness. Regarding renewable energy, the two countries aim to promote cleaner and more affordable energy sources aligned with sustainable development goals. In the realm of heritage and diaspora tourism, Ghana and Grenada plan to jointly promote cultural connections that honor shared roots and provide economic opportunities.

Prime Minister Mitchell, during his visit, reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Ghana and Grenada. He praised Sister Margaret Yemoah, a Ghanaian and the Executive Director of New Life Organisation in Grenada, for her contributions over the past 15 years.
