Axim: The Ghana Italian Women Association (GIWA), in collaboration with its partners, has donated approximately 500 school tables to 10 basic and senior high schools in Axim and its surrounding areas in the Western Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the donation was supported by the Grimaldi Shipping Line and the MEWE Nii Amaa Ollennu Foundation. It was facilitated by Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, the Nkosuohene of Lower Axim, along with the Lower Axim Traditional Council, with the aim of enhancing education in the area.
The beneficiary schools included Axim Senior High Girls, Akonu-Domunli-Agyan M/A, Dr Bemish Basic, Anglican Basic, Axim Methodist Basic, Apewosika M/A, Axim Roman Catholic Basic, Allasunah Islamic Basic, Dadwen M/A, and Ankyinyin M/A schools.
Nii Amaa Ollennu from the MEWE Nii Amaa Ollennu Foundation noted that the donation was part of efforts to address the shortfall in the country's educational sector. He emphasized the importance of education as the backbone of the future generation and urged students to focus on their academics to achieve their aspirations.
Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Asamoah, the Nzema East Municipal Coordinating Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the benefactors and traditional leaders for their support, highlighting the critical need for school furniture in the municipality. He assured continued involvement and assistance in future initiatives.
Nana Amo Meizah, Ninfahene of the Lower Axim Traditional Council, representing Awulae Attibrukusu III, Paramount Chief of Lower Axim, praised the donors for their contributions. He highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Traditional Council and Nii Amaa Ollennu, acknowledging their work in advancing various development objectives, including health, education, infrastructure, and human development programs.
