Accra: The Ghana International School (GIS) has launched its 70th Anniversary celebrations. Established in September 1955, before Ghana's independence and originally known as Gold Coast International School, GIS has evolved into Africa's premier international school.
According to Ghana News Agency, during a press conference, Dr. Mary Ashun, the Chief Executive Officer, highlighted that the school's 70th anniversary is not just a testament to its longevity but also a narrative of African educational ambition and international excellence. She emphasized how the school has maintained world-class standards while preserving cultural identity and local relevance.
Founded during the colonial era in 1955, the institution was a pioneer in international education in Africa, offering education to students of all races and creeds. Dr. Ashun further noted that GIS holds the distinction of being the first and only double-accredited school in Ghana by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools (NEASC). The school achieved this accreditation status in December 2007, marking a significant milestone in its history, current achievements, and future aspirations.
