Takoradi: The Ghana Gas Company Limited has embarked on a strategic initiative aimed at shaping public perception about the company by educating the media. The initiative underscores the company's commitment to transparent communication and public education.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kirk Mensah, the Corporate Affairs Manager, highlighted the media's pivotal role as a bridge between the company and the public. He emphasized that a well-informed media plays a crucial role in public education and agenda-setting. The workshop, led by the Corporate Affairs team and themed 'Media's Role in Shaping Perception: Overview of Ghana Gas Company Limited,' marks a significant step towards strengthening the relationship with the media and enhancing public understanding of the gas sector.
Mr. Mensah stated, "We are dedicated to building a transparent and collaborative relationship with the media. Together, we can tell the story of Ghana Gas and its vision in a way that inspires national development." This initiative not only aims to educate journalists but also to create a platform for transparent communication.
Madam Judith Adjobah Blay, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, stressed the importance of accurate journalism in shaping public opinion about the gas industry. She pointed out that Ghana Gas was established to commercialize gas at a time when there was no policy on gas flaring in Ghana. "Our company's mandate includes the gathering, processing, transportation, and marketing of gas," she noted, highlighting the strategic timing to reinforce transparency while maintaining operational integrity.
Mr. Solomon Daisie Gyenfie, Assistant Manager of Engineering and Maintenance, explained that the company's recent shutdown was akin to a health check-up, emphasizing its importance for the safety, reliability, and integrity of their processing plant.
Additionally, Mr. John Kofi Fayemi, who addressed community engagement and compensation frameworks, discussed issues such as land acquisition, buffer zones, and the urgent need to halt illegal mining activities near Ghana Gas installations. "We cannot compromise the safety and operational integrity of our infrastructure. We must secure social licenses from project communities and ensure proper legal ownership of lands used," he asserted.
Meanwhile, efforts on the second Gas Processing Plant are ongoing, highlighting Ghana Gas's strategic drive to meet growing energy demands and establish a resilient national gas infrastructure.
