Accra: The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that no soldiers will be deployed at any polling stations during the upcoming elections. This was confirmed in a statement signed by Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quashie, Director General of the Department of Public Affairs, emphasizing that the primary responsibility for election security will lie with the Ghana Police Service (GPS).According to Ghana News Agency, the GAF clarified that its personnel will only be on standby support and will be deployed only upon request by the GPS. The military stated that this approach is part of a collaborative effort to ensure that elections proceed smoothly and peacefully while maintaining law and order. This initiative is also aligned with the GAF's ongoing commitment to national security and peace during the electoral process.The GAF further encouraged the public to report any individuals impersonating military personnel or wearing military gear to the nearest police station. They provided the GPS toll-free numbers -18555 or 0800 311 311-for immediate action against such impersonators. The GAF also urged the public to cooperate with security personnel in ensuring peaceful and successful elections.
